Vancouver, WA: C-TRAN will join transit agencies across the country in celebrating national Get on Board Day on Thursday, April 25. For local riders, that means free coffees or smoothies at C-TRAN’s three main transit centers, plus other giveaways—a small thank you to the people who choose public transportation.
Get on Board Day is an initiative of the American Public Transportation Association, of which C-TRAN is a member. In addition to celebrating with riders, transit agencies will join to build awareness of the many economic, environmental and community benefits of public transportation. C-TRAN carried more than 6.2 million passenger trips in 2018 serving Clark County.
“Having a strong public transportation system is crucial for any community, and Clark County is a great place to live and work in part because of the connections that C-TRAN provides,” said Adrian Cortes, a Battle Ground City Council member and chair of the C-TRAN Board of Directors.
“Vancouver has a bright future, and transit is very much a part of that future,” said Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, vice chair of the C-TRAN board. “As we build on the success of The Vine with a second bus rapid transit line planned for Mill Plain Boulevard, we continue the work of moving our city forward.”
On April 25, C-TRAN staff will hand out refreshments and giveaways to riders at 99th Street Transit Center and Fisher’s Landing Transit Center from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., then at the Vancouver Mall Transit Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Each weekday, 34 million people in the U.S. use public transportation. And 87 percent of those trips directly benefit the economy by getting people to work or connecting them to a business, according to APTA. Communities that invest in public transit also reduce the nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons annually.
C-TRAN is the regional public transportation provider for portions of Clark County. It offers Local bus service within its Clark County service area, Regional bus service to the nearest MAX light rail station, and Express commuter service to downtown Portland. It also provides Connector service within the city limits of Camas, La Center, and Ridgefield.
