The Clark County Green Business program recently welcomed C-TRAN as its newest member, recognizing our efforts to reduce our – and your – environmental impact.
We’re thrilled and honored to become a certified green business. As a public transportation provider, sustainability is at the core of what we do. When you see the words “Earth Day Every Day” on the side of a bus, that’s not just an empty slogan. We take those words seriously – in the service we provide to the public, and in how we run our day-to-day operation behind the scenes. To wit:
- More than half of C-TRAN’s current fixed route fleet are hybrid diesel-electric buses.
- We’re testing renewable diesel as an alternative fuel source, and in the coming years will introduce all-electric buses into our fleet for the first time.
- We’ve installed public electric vehicle charging stations at Fisher’s Landing Transit Center.
- We’ve installed efficient LED lights across numerous C-TRAN facilities, including transit centers.
- We recycle cigarette butts collected at all Vine stations.
- We collect and recycle all Keurig K-Cups used in the new C-TRAN administration building.
“I am proud to welcome C-TRAN into the Green Business program,” said Sarah Keirns, environmental outreach specialist at Clark County Public Health. “The green team is great to work with, and they deserve recognition for their efforts.”
The C-TRAN Green Team is an employee-led initiative aimed at making this a cleaner, greener agency. The group worked closely with the Clark County Green Business program as part of the green business certification process. That included a detailed assessment of our operation and multiple site visits. Now that it’s official, C-TRAN is excited to support the Green Business program. And we’re excited to further improve our green practices through the resources, ideas and partnerships available among the dozens of other Clark County Green Business members. It’s impressive company that we’re proud to join.
Becoming a certified green business doesn’t mean C-TRAN is done with our sustainability efforts. In other words, it’s not a finish line. It’s an opportunity. Let’s make C-TRAN and Clark County even greener.
